Enable DreamScene in Any Version of Vista or Windows 7
Enable DreamScene in Any Version of Vista or Windows 7
Windows DreamScene was a utility available for Vista Ultimate that allowed users to set video as desktop wallpaper. It was dropped in Windows 7, but well take a look at how to play DreamScenes in all versions of Windows 7 or Vista.
First, youll need to find some DreamScenes to download. Weve found some nice ones at both DreamScene.org and DeviantArt. You can find those download links at the end of the article. Theyll come as compressed files, so youll need to extract them after downloading.
Windows 7 DreamScene Activator
If you are running Windows 7 you can use Windows 7 DreamScene Activator. This free portable utility enables DreamScene in both 32 & 64 bit versions of Windows 7. Users can then set either MPG or WMV files as desktop wallpaper.
Download and extract the Windows 7 DreamScene Activator (link below). Once extracted, youll need to run the application as administrator. Right-click on the .exe and select Run as administrator.
Click on Enable DreamScene. This will also restart Windows Explorer if it is open.
To play your DreamScene, browse for the file in Windows Explorer, right-click the file and select Set as Desktop Background.
Enjoy your new Windows 7 DreamScene.
Although it says it is for Windows 7 only, we were able to get it to work with no problems on Vista Home Premium x32 as well.
You can Pause the DreamScene at anytime by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Pause DreamScene.
When you are ready for a change, click Disable DreamScene and switch back to your previous wallpaper.
Using VLC Media Player
Users of all versions of Windows 7 & Vista can enable a DreamScene using VLC. Recently, we showed you how to set a video as your desktop wallpaper in VLC. Since DreamScenes are in MPEG or WMV format, we will use the same tactic to display them as desktop wallpaper. Well just need to make a few additional tweaks to the VLC settings.
Youll need to download and install VLC media player if you dont already have it. You can find the download link below. Next, select Tools > Preferences from the Menu.
Select the Video button on the left and then choose DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list.
Next, select All under Show Settings at the lower left, then select the Video button on the left pane. Uncheck Show media title on video. This will prevent VLC from constantly showing the title of the video on the screen each time the video loops. Click Save and the restart VLC.
Now we will add the video to our playlist and set it to continuously loop. Select View > Playlist from the Menu.
Select the Add file button from the bottom of the Playlist window and select Add file.
Browse for your file and click Open.
Click the Loop button at the bottom so the video plays in a continuous loop.
Now, were ready to play the video. After the video starts playing, select Video > DirectX Wallpaper from the Menu, then minimize VLC.
If youre using Aero Themes, you may get a pop-up warning and Windows will switch automatically to a basic theme.
If looping one video gets to be a little repetitive, you can add multiple videos to your playlist in VLC and loop the entire playlist. Just make sure you toggle the Loop button on the playlist window to Loop All.
Now youve got a nice DreamScene playing on your desktop. Another cool trick you can do with VLC is take snapshots of favorite movie scenes and set them as backgrounds.
When youre ready to go back to your old wallpaper, maximize VLC, select Video and click DirectX Wallpaper again to turn it off the video background. Occasionally we were left with a black screen and had to manually change our wallpaper back to normal even after turning off the DirectX Wallpaper.
Note: Keep in mind that using the VLC method takes up a lot of resources so if you try to run it on older hardware, or say a netbook, youre not going to get good results. We also tried to use the VLC method in XP, but couldnt get it to work. If you have leave a comment and let us know.
While the DreamScene feature never really caught on in Vista, we find them to be a cool way to pump a little life into your desktop on any version of Vista or Windows 7.

Project Spark App Goes Live in Windows Store but still needs a beta key
Project Spark App Goes Live in Windows Store but still needs a beta key
This past Sunday the guys over at McAkins Online discovered that Microsoft had posted their Project Spark Windows 8.1 app to the Windows Store but it was only available in Kazakhstan.
However, the description was in English and we posted about McAkins find here at WindowsObserver.com since it was a great discovery.
Well now the app has gone live to a broader audience and is now available in the Windows Store for almost everyone to download but there are a couple of things that will slow you down from using it.
The first is a need for a beta key. You can sign up at https://joinprojectspark.com/ but according to Microsoft they are sending out the codes in a slow and methodical manner.
The second item is that the Project Spark app is only compiled to run on x86/x64 platforms so if you are running Surface or Surface 2 you will get an error when you try to download the app.
Let us know when you get your beta keys and how the rest of the app is. I am waiting on mine so I hope to be able to get you more details on the app soon.

As Setraco Soldiers Murder ‘Okada’ Rider In Delta
As Setraco Soldiers Murder ‘Okada’ Rider In Delta
SaharaReporters gathered that the tragic event happened after soldiers posted to guard a Lebanese expatriate issued an order banning all forms of vehicular movements with the exception of motorcycles that convey school children across the Ughelli Bridge. The order was to enable smooth operations by Setraco Construction workers constructing the Ughelli market bridge.
An Okada rider who witnessed the incident described how it happened to SaharaReporters. Following the ban by the soldiers, the Okada rider who was carrying a female passenger, passed the barricade setup by the soldiers. Midway into the bridge, he was asked by one of the soldiers to reverse. The Okada rider began to appeal that since he was already midway into the bridge, the soldier should allow him through. While the conversation was going on, the infuriated soldier flogged the Okada rider with his horsewhip. In a swift reaction the Okada man came down from his motorcycle. In the process of taking off his helmet, it mistakenly hit the soldier on the arm.
According to the eyewitness, Once the helmet mistakenly hit his hand, the already angered soldier cocked his rifle threatening to shoot. On realizing what was happening, the Okada rider protested by holding the rifle to prevent the soldier from shooting him. On seeing what was happening, another soldier from the corner fired at the Okada rider on the chest but the bullet missed its target. Immediately, another shot was fired at the Okada rider on the head and he died instantly. A bystander at the scene named Felix was also hit by a stray bullet on the side.
Several eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the soldiers took to their heels on realizing what they had done. However, they returned a few minutes later with a larger number and carried the injured Felix to a hospital and the corpse to the Ughelli police station. The soldiers also hurriedly covered the pool of blood on the ground with sand.
A correspondent of SaharaReporters who arrived at the scene around 9 a.m. observed that the murder spot had been covered with sand. A police source stated that the corpse had been taken to the morgue of an undisclosed hospital.
More soldiers had also been drafted to the scene, and movement in the market area reduced to the barest minimum. Pedestrians walking across the bridge were ordered to raise their hands above their heads.
A member of the community told SaharaReporters that tension had risen in the area as some youths have vowed to avenge the gruesome murder of one of their number by soldiers

Five youths were killed in a ghastly accident involving a Camry car and a parked Toyota Hiace commuter bus.PHOTOS: 5 Youths Killed in Horrible Car Accident, Perpetrator Escaped From the Scene
Five youths were killed in a ghastly car accident, paralyzing commercial activities at Elekoyangan and Anfeyin, two communities located along the old Jebba road in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday.
Two others were seriously injuried and were rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, where doctors are battling to save their lives.
The accident occurred around 9.30 p.m. when a Camry car heading towards Ilorin metropolis from Jebba rammed into a stationary Toyota Hiace bus before knocking down the youths.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Camry car, suspected to be drunk, escaped from the scene.
Following the tragic incident, members of the two communities took to the streets to protest the death of the youths.
They set the Camry car on fire and blocked the road for several hours with bonfires made from disused tyres.
The situation was brought under control by policemen who fired tear gas into the air to dislodge the protesters.PHOTOS: 5 Youths Killed in Horrible Car Accident, Perpetrator Escaped From the Scene
A resident of Elekoyangan, Mallam Isiaka Rahman, described the death of the youths:
It is a sad incident. Our children, Abdulfatai, Sodiq, Fatai Kososi, Jamiu Mogaji and Jamiu were killed in the accident while Shola and Gafar are in a state of coma in the hospital.
During a peaceful demonstration to protest the killing of the youths, the police came and shot sporadically into the air. We had to run for cover. Teargas was also fired to dislodge the protesters, he dislosed.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Glover-Oshodi, confirmed the incident and called for calm.
While sympathising with relations of those who lost their lives in the accident, the police boss warned the youths not take the law into their hands, adding that his men would remain in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order

Under his art moniker Wolfbat (@wolfbat), New York City-based artist Dennis McNett uses Instagram to share the process behind his huge, intricate wood cuts and sculptures.
"Everything I do is hand carved with a chisel," says Dennis. While sometimes its hard to capture in a photo, "I try to show the process from start to finish to give a better idea of what people are looking at when viewing my work. Its also fun to show some of the big sculptures I make for performance, which are then burned afterwards."
Dennis first heard about Instagram from his interns, he says. They kept talking about it and encouraged me to join. After signing up, however, his captivating wood cuts and sculptureswhich take the form of Viking ships, dragons and other mythical creaturesquickly found an audience.
The Instagram community is also a source of inspiration. I use Instagram to share my work, which Dennis says is strongly influenced by the imagery of the early 80s skating and punk rock scene, but also to see other peoples work and share things that inspire me.

Chromecast Is TIME’s Number One Gadget In Its “Top Ten Of Everything 2013″
Chromecast Is TIME’s Number One Gadget In Its “Top Ten Of Everything 2013″
Instead of trying to do everything like Googles famously ambitious and unsuccessful Google TV this thumb-sized gizmo does one thing, does it as simply as possible and does it for the impulse-purchase price of $35.
I definitely agree with TIME on this as although the Chromecast isnt the most technology-laden gadget released this year, its achieved what so many media-streaming devices have tried to do over the years in a simple and easy package, and is affordable to anyone whos willing to drop $35 (sometimes dropping that amount multiple times). Having said that, Im not so much a fan of TIMEs other choices to round out the top 10 (the new iPads? Really?), but its nice to see the Chromecast getting the kudos it deserves.
What would you say is the number one device released in 2013? Let us know what you think should get the top honours in the comments.

Nigeria Army struggling needs sophisticated resources to counter Boko Harams dens in Desert Borders
Nigeria Army struggling needs sophisticated resources to counter Boko Harams dens in Desert Borders
Negligence on security measures advised following Boko Haram renewed insurgency is one of the reasons that largely made todays attack possible by the sect. The Nigerian military despite its denial are fighting the Boko Haram sect with obsolete weapons that are far more inferior to that of the sects sophistication, and also poorly remuneration for the troops on the war front.A military source confirmed that for over month, both the Federal Government and the higher military command have been advised on the need to station detachment of counter-terrorist troops around Sahara Desert with sole aim of crushing Boko Haram Islamic sect in view of the sect penetration in Nigeria through several borders with Niger Republic, Cameroon and Chad.
Foreign Terror Via Nigerias Porous Borders, the Urgent Matter of National SecurityYobe state, which is second stronghold of the sect, also had international borders with Zinder and Diffa regions of Niger Republic. The formation of a military base, according to the source remained most viable option in containing the increasingly strength of the sect, who are getting training, support and other logistic support in the un-policed deserts that stretch from Algeria and Mauritania up to Niger and Chad.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, It has become imperative for us to submit our candid position as military with sole responsibility of preserving Nigerias sovereignty. The terrorists find their way into Borno and Yobe via our porous borders. And their main planning and training is in the desert, afterwards they sneak into their camps inside Nigeria and so instead of waiting, we are proposing that we have full military base in the desert that would comprise both land and air operations. This is our submission to the government; it is dangerous waiting for them. They are becoming more sophisticated and organize by the day, and so we must move forward. Their trainees and those providing them with logistics are right inside the desert between Niger Republic and Chad., the source said.NewsRescue

Intellectuals must overthrow political traders in Igboland
Intellectuals must overthrow political traders in Igboland
It is the duty of intellectuals in every society to set agenda for leaders so that they do not derail. They set agenda so that services will be delivered as at when due. Intellectuals do not exhibit intellectual dishonesty; they speak the truth to power always not minding whose ox is gored. When any society goes astray it is simply because the intellectuals went to sleep or they have been bought over. But the real intellectuals do not subscribe to the politics of the stomach.
The real intellectuals prefer to die of hunger than to sell their hard earned dignity. Understanding the dynamics of Nigerian politics has been the biggest problem of the Igbo in Nigeria. The Igbo, yes my Igbo dont seem to place a neat handle on Nigerias intricate politics and how well it can be harnessed to improve the lots of the race. The annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential elections provided an opportunity for Igbo to join other Nigerians to defend democracy and rule of law but only a handful of Igbo stood with the Yoruba to defend June 12. The majority rather chose to be seduced by traders and illiterates to term the struggle a Yoruba struggle. The struggle for June 12 lasted for five years and the rest is now history. But Yoruba was not defeated. Presidency was ceded to them for 8 years.
Leadership failure since 1999 has presented another opportunity for Igbo to work with other Nigerians to rescue Nigeria from rudderless and inept leadership PDP has foisted on the country. The Hausa/Fulani sacrificed ANPP and CPC to join APC.
Yoruba moved from AD to AC, ACN and then APC. Instead of my people joining other stakeholders in the project Nigeria, they tagged the APC as Boko Haram party, Yoruba party, and Hausa party. They rather decided to tag slavishly along the despised and failed PDP and even when a mass exodus has hit the PDP, some Igbo traders and dancers of fortune feel it is their duty to warm the bed with a dead child. They eagerly received a dead child like the PDP which in 15 years have destroyed the Igbo leg of the Nigerian three-legged structure. From being the one of the three legs of Nigeria before the coming of PDP, the Igbo are today not even considered one of the sixth legs of a wobbling Nigeria yet some Igbo mercantilists propped by their bulging stomach and led in the nose by traders are serving as cannon fodders to the PDP. This they do, either as direct members of PDP or as hidden enablers of PDP. APGA has today been turned over to the PDP to be raped and exploited to its pleasure while the rest of the country moves to salvage the crumbling nation from the deadly virus the PDP has become.
The worst is that some so-called intellectuals who should know and direct the race aright have allowed the rumblings of their stomachs to make them intellectual pall bearers. They have allowed themselves to be dragged by barely literate traders and political harlots to serve at the meal table of the dying PDP, not minding the odious stenches. They are the most fanatic in defence of the means and odd ways of the PDP just because such action promises to keep morsels on their tables. It is a shame!
Igbo nation cannot live in isolation, Igbo nation cannot be an island unto itself. Igbo need to work with others, network, interface, negotiate, inter-relate, synergize, strategize, engage, dialogue and coordinate to make progress. Until Igbo show that they can be trusted by other Nigerians who are not Igbo the chances of ruling Nigeria may be remote. Igbo must love the people they want to rule. If you read ethnic meaning into any project in Nigeria it may lead to mistrust. To tag APC, Boko Haram party, Hausa party or Yoruba party is not a good strategy. It is at best a self defeatist ploy by die hard reactionaries to keep Igbo in perpetual chains and continue benefiting from the overflowing table of rot the PDP has employed to wreck and crumble this country for the past 14 years. These Amaziahs of the Igbo nation are in a desperate mission to keep Igbo in perpetual bondage where they will never rise again. They have been dominant in the Igbo nation since after the civil war and have been the sole beneficiaries of the decreasing fortunes of the Igbo nation. It does not show tact, it does not show intelligence, it does not show commitment or deep understanding of the dynamics of Nigerian politics.
Political Traders are still choking the development of politics in Igboland. They still use money to confuse our people. They have nothing to give Igboland except filling their personal pockets. If they have anything for Igbo, why is it that in the last fourteen years, no Igbo man is located within the first six top positions in the country? Why is it that out people still have no federal investment in Igboland? Why is it that out people still spend days to cross the sole bridge over the River Niger? Why is it that we have the worst federal roads in Igboland? During election time, those that employ them as internal colonial masters give them money, give them police to come and manipulate results. After each election, they smile to the bank and Ala Igbo continues to wallow in pitch darkness. They buy up votes and electoral materials just to be relevant. We have suffered mediocrity in the name of leadership. These are the fraudsters that bought and diverted electoral materials in Anambra. The recent electoral fraud in Anambra can be traced to this factor (the menace of political traders) Intellectuals must reclaim Igboland and cause our people to rise above clannish behavior, selfish politics, primordial sentiments, ethnic preoccupation to join others to reclaim Nigeria.
For the masses of Igboland, if after 15 years, we are yet to articulate what we gained from the same PDP these traders are dragging us to, when will we start reaping the benefits of the slavish fidelity some political profiteers have led us to pledge for a dying PDP? If a writer is silent, he is lying. A school of thought says a story that must be told never forgives silence. I concur
