Acer Extensa 4630z dan Ubuntu 9.04

Hari ini beli notebook Acer Exstensa 4630z, speknya sebagai berikut:
  • Intel Pentium dual core processor T4200 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache).
  • Mobile intel(r) graphics media accelerator 4500M (BIOS vga Intel V1659).
  • Memory 1 GB DDR2.
  • 14.1" WXGA Acer crystalbrite(r) LCD.
  • 160 GB HDD (Hitachi).
  • DVD supermulti DL (Slimtype DVD A DS8A2S).
  • Acer Nplify 802.11 b/g/draft N WLAN (Ralink 802.11n WLAN card).
  • Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet.
  • Card reader multi (JMB38X SD/MMC/MS Host Controller).
  • Realtek HD Audio.
  • Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0 USB device.
  • Webcam 1.3 MP.
Kesan pertama, karena OS bawaan cuman Linpus, sebuah distro linux yang dipasang Acer sepertinya bermasalah, saya menggunakan ubuntu 9.04 live installer dari USB disk. Alhamdulillah, wifi, vga, sound card, semuanya dikenali dengan baik.

Compiz untuk efek desktop pun bisa diaktifkan penuh. Untuk menggunakan webcam acer extensa ini, perlu aplikasi cheese webcam booth, baiknya sekalian aplikasi camera-monitor, keduanya sudah ada di repository ubuntu 9.04 ini. Aplikasi camorama webcam viewer gagal mengakses device video webcam ini.

Untuk instalasi Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003, SATA mode di BIOS musti di set ke IDE, standarnya adalah AHCI.

Kekurangan notebook Acer Extensa 4630z ini adalah di minimnya colokan USB yang disediakan, cuma 2 buah, dan berdekatan lokasinya sehingga sulit kalau dicolokin bersamaan. Sayang juga untuk notebook seharga 5.150.000 rupiah ini.
